Any story I’m telling is the material’s story; its source, history, and how or why it came to me.

In my artwork I’m tapping into some existing current, something bigger and much older than myself. It runs through the material in veins I find when I’m cutting, shaping, and burning it.

The stories that emerge are not clear to me. But I’m driven by the mystery. I measure the success of each piece by the degree to which that current is still there, flowing through the material.
